Adrian Peterson Finds Home, Signs With New Orleans

Two days before one of the biggest days on the NFL calendar, it's extremely rare a story non-draft related climbs it's way atop the headlines.

Perhaps one of the greatest to ever carry a football could change that.

After a long off-season of debate and mulling options, 32 year old running back Adrian Peterson finally settled on joining the New Orleans Saints on a 2 year, $7 million deal. Peterson, who has battled injuries and suspension the past three years, will share a backfield with Pro-Bowler Mark Ingram in hopes of providing more balance in an aerial juggernaut of an offense.

Many factors contributed to Peterson's release by Minnesota, with age, performance and a fresh start on the mind of Minnesota's front office. In an interview with ESPN, Peterson said that "I chose this team because it felt right with my spirit" and went on to point the potential of what New Orleans could become.

However, one factor makes this signing mostly fun for all of us at home: A week one match-up with an NFC North team NOT named the Bears, Lions or Packers. That's right, his first week of football in his new home will feature a game against his former team, the Minnesota Vikings. (Get yo popcorn ready)

Very seldom do we see a superstar on the level of Peterson take a supporting role for a low amount of money, but with the clock very much ticking on Adrian's career, the All-Pro running back made a smart decision. Not only does Peterson move to a new fan base where more people will be able to celebrate and enjoy his success as a fresh start, but he also put himself into position to take less punishment and more beneficial to his long term health, something that has become a hot topic in the realm of athletes and medicine.

When Peterson enters the Hall of Fame, he will indeed go down as a Minnesota Viking. Will he end up with a Super Bowl ring? That argument just got a little more interesting (depends who you ask). But one thing is for sure: For the next two seasons, Adrian Peterson is a Saint.
